John R. Brown

Amory – John R. Brown, 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Merit Health Gilmore Memorial. Born on October 29, 1933, in Detroit, MI, he was a son of the late Russell and Erma J. Fluhrer Brown.

John was a graduate of Cayce High School in Kentucky, Murray State University, and the University of Arkansas. He honorably served in the US Army from 1954 – 1962. John was a College Professor at Agricultural and Technical College, Alfred, NY. He was a member of the Christian Science Church, Columbus, MS.

John’s personal philosophy was “live and let live”.

He is survived by his daughters, Jamie B. Bach, Gold Beach, OR, and Johnna B. Rice, Knoxville, PA; grandchildren, Joseph and James Firnhaber; Tyler, Kelsey and Emma Glover; sister, Sharon Mandrell, Martin, TN; brother-in-law, Donnie D. Duncan; nieces and nephews, Buddy, Renee, David, Shelby, Ashleigh, Amber, Emely, and Jessica; special friends, The Burks, Mitchells, Griggs, Deborah Johnson, and Brenda and Donnie Duncan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorthella Ann Boane; brother, Donald W. Brown.

A Gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 – 4 PM, Saturday, November 26 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.

His Visitation will be held from 2- 4 P.M., Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Imes-Miller Funeral Home, 311 N. 4th St., Murray, KY 42071. Burial will follow in Mac Daniel Cemetery, Almo, KY.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Regional Rehab Center, 615 Pegram Drive, Tupelo, MS, or the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, 205 West 700 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84101.
