Hatley – Joel Burdine Rollins, 90, died on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at Gilmore Memorial RMC. Born on June 23, 1920, in Bigbee, he was a son of the late Edward & Gertrude Green Rollins.
After graduating high school, Mr. Rollins honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II. For over fifty years, he worked as an auto mechanic at Jones Motor Company and the Chevrolet dealership. After retiring, his love of working on automobiles led him to open his own mechanic shop. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Rollins was a member of the VFW, American Legion and a life-member of the DAV. A wonderful person and companion, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, watching sports on television, and watching Gospel music on Channel 39.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois Wright Rollins, Hatley; brothers-in-law, James W. and Telman Wright, both of Hatley, and Bobby (Becky) Eads, Mt. Carmel, IL; sisters-in-law, Reba (Charles) Blankenship, Amory and Emolene Bolling, Waukegan, IL; several nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Kaynetta and Margaret Dobbs and John Kuykendall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Rollins.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday in Masonic Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Joe Poss and Bro. Jesse Betts officiating. Pallbearers will be Dr. Danny Moore, Dr. Gerald Parker, Dr. Stephen Hathcock, Ricky Stanford, Hilbert Hathcock, Bruce Dobbs and Jason Reeves. Honorary pallbearers will be Legacy Hospice, David Bray, Annison Ritter and John B. Kuykendall.
Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:40 PM, Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
