Amory – Joel “Bud” Plunkett, 82, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017, at Diversicare of Amory. Born on April 12, 1935, in Athens Community, he was a son of the late William Dewey and Rosie Ellen McDonald Plunkett.
Bud attended Becker School and farmed after leaving school. For 50 years, he lived in Zion, IL, and worked as a mixer for Zion Cookies for 30 years and later for Matt’s Cookies for 15 years. One who loved going to church, Bud was a member of East Amory Baptist Church.
On September 27, 2008, Bud married his sweetheart from the 1950’s, Peggy Coggin. Together, they loved traveling and being outdoors. His quest was to see how many times he could cross the Mississippi River at different places and determined there were 12 locations. A quiet and gentle man, Bud had a big heart for his family and his puppies. He loved watching Westerns, Andy Griffith, and Family Country Reunion on RFD-TV. When passing the time, they enjoyed sitting on the porch enjoyed God’s creation.
He is survived by wife, Peggy Welch Coggin Plunkett, Amory; step-daughter, Netta Coggin, Coffeeville; step-sons, Jim C. Coggin, Nettleton; Jason Coggin, Aberdeen; Ted Nash (Anita), Hatley; Tony Nash (Nell), Wren; Tim Nash (Joy), Kenosha, WI; sister, Lavada Sanders, Riveroaks, TX; sister-in-law, Shirley Plunkett, Hatley; 6 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ellen Northington; brothers, Tom and Robert Earl Plunkett; first wife, Trisha Nash Plunkett; and long-time special friend, Robert McNeese.
His Funeral Service will be at 2 PM, Thursday, September 28 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ted, Tony and Tim Nash; Jim Coggin; Donnie Plunkett; William Keller. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Davis, Junior Davis, Tommy Hester, Brian Walton Mike Kimble.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
