Amory – Joean McCary Harlow, died Monday, December 14, 2015 at Rush Hospital, Meridian, MS. Born in Amory, MS, she was a daughter of William Vardaman and Demple Florence Copeland McCary.
Living most of her life in Amory, Joean was a graduate of Amory High School. She grew up in a large family and was a Majorette for Amory High School. In 1964, she met the love of her life, Percy Harlow, at the skating rink in Wren. They were later married on August 28, 1952. Joean worked in the customer service field all her life. She was a Phone Operator for Southern Bell for many years. Joean also lived part of her life in West Africa, where she was a secretary for Firestone, in Monorvia, Liberia. She was of the Presbyterian Faith and was a vivacious outgoing woman who loved to live life to the fullest. She had a beautiful spirit and was loved by all that knew her. She was a connoisseur of fine wine and she enjoyed traveling. Joean loved to go on cruises and see different parts of the world. She also enjoyed the wonderful cuisine they offered. Her treasured companions in life, besides her husband, family, and friends, were her cats and dogs. Joean will be missed dearly by all that knew her.
She is survived her best friend and soul mate, Percy Harlow; son, Jeff Harlow, West Point, MS; sisters, Judy Wright, Amory, Doris Holcher, Columbus, and Jane Moon (Johnny), Amory; brother, Terry McCary (Bonnie), Amory; Grandchildren, JoAnna Harlow Ellis (David), Mc Condy, MS; great-grandchild, Harlow Brian Ellis; a host of nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am, at New Masonic Cemetery on December 17, 2015 with Dr. Tom Cheatham officiating. Burial will follow. Pallbearers will be Lee Cadden, David Ellis, Larry Clark, Joe Frank Peeler, Chad Little, and Tommy Thornton.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:15 am on Thursday at the funeral home.
