Amory – Joe Thomas Sugg, 80, died on Sunday, December 7, 2014, at his residence. Born on December 3, 1934, in Hatley, he was a son of the late Leroy Kindle and Vola Jernigan Sugg.
Joe attended Hatley High School and MSU. From 1955 – 1963, he honorably served in the US Air Force. On January 20, 1957, Joe married Vera Taylor. He taught at Hamilton School and was the welding instructor at Monroe County VoTech for 21 years. After retiring, Joe worked for Monroe County Road Crew and operated Sugg Blacksmith Shop. He was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church as well as a 3rd degree Mason of Smithville Lodge #548. An avid hunter and fisherman, Joe loved the outdoors. A wonderful and humble family man, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren, was a missionary to many and was passionate about his former students.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Vera Sugg, Amory; sons, Chris Sugg (Dixie) and Brian Sugg (Amanda) of Amory; grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew and Brooke Sugg; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Barbara Malone.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, December 9 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt and Bro. Kevin Crook officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Thomas and Wayne Jernigan; Lamar Minor; Tom Crook; James McAfee; and Stephen Nichols.
