Jimmy Doyle Young
Jimmy Doyle Young, 84, passed away on April 29, 2019, at River Place Nursing Center in Amory, MS. He was born on September 10, 1934 in Smithville, MS to the late Erie Eugene Young and Maggie Carroll VanOven Young.
Jimmy attended Smithville High School and went to work at a young age. He joined the U.S. Army National Guard and served our country for four years. He then married the love of his life, Mary Jo Parham, on July 2, 1954 and together they were blessed with two children. He worked as a Supervisor at Amory Garment Company and had a great working relationship with Mr. Longnecker, the owner. He faithfully provided for his family and enjoyed his retirement after working 49 years.
A man with a huge heart, Jimmy was a wonderful example of a fine Christian man. He never met a stranger, always showed God’s love to others, and he put others before himself. He was a faithful member of the Amory Church of Christ and he loved serving with his church family. A true family man, he was a devoted husband and a wonderful father and grandfather. More than anything, he enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In his free time, he liked to go fishing, spend time with grandkids, and add to his collections of various items. Prior to his friend’s death, Jimmy loved to go on trips and fly with his close friend Jimmy Vaughan. With a heart for the Lord, he loved Gospel music. His family and friends would tell you that he was a very wealthy man as he was abundantly blessed spiritually by God and physically with a loving family. This larger than life man, who was kind hearted, will be missed dearly by his family and friends. The family thanks God for the love and memories Jimmy gave them. He will be missed dearly and his legacy will have a lasting impact on the generations to come.
Jimmy is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary Jo Parham Young, Amory; sons, Gary Doyle Young, Amory, Stephen Dwayne Young (Portia), Hatley; grandchildren, Staci Young, Zachary Young, Katie Hughes, Jacob Young, Gabe Young, and Cody Young; sister, Hilda Downey, St. Louis, MO; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
