Amory- Jimmy “Squirrel” Sanderson, 74, died Thursday, May 30, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Amory to the late Grover Cleveland Sanderson and Laverne Rye Sanderson, on November 9, 1938.
Squirrel was a 1957 graduate of Hatley High School and was of the Baptist faith. He owned and operated Sanderson Motors for 35 years, working at Larry Clark Chevrolet as a salesman until his retirement. Previously he worked at Fred Tinsley Pure Oil Station, Moore Stevens Shell Station, Richardson Chevrolet, Big 4 Motors in Tupelo, Sanderson Redi Mix, Gulf Finance, Fine Cars, Red Hogland Chevrolet, and Sam Stevens Motors. A great salesman, he possessed the gifts of kindness, integrity, and honesty. Loving life and living it to the fullest, he made many friends throughout the years and enjoyed being with his buddies over a meal or playing cards or just simply visiting. Known as the family comedian, Squirrel enjoyed entertaining them over a good meal. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and just about anything that had a steering wheel and an engine.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 26 years, Nita Sanderson; daughters, Patsy Jones, Amory and Bonnie Finney (Gary), Wren; sons, Jeff Sanderson (Jackie Young), Memphis, Jay Sanderson (Anita), Nashville, and Jon Sanderson (Cindy), Hoover, AL; sisters, Lois Hughey, Nesbit, MS, Elsie Sanderson, Amory, Glenda Daughety, Baton Rouge; brother, Jerry Sanderson (Grace), Amory; grandchildren, Kristi Sanderson (Jason Tipton), Audrey Sanderson, Bryan Sanderson, Peyton Sanderson, Cayce Jones (Mallory Wright), Emilea Tackett (Levi), Cortnee Jones, Candy McGregor (Shane), Elyse Smith (Benjamin), Kathryn Henry (James); great granddaughter, Lucie Caroline Tackett; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by twin sons, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, June 1, 2013 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be; Doug and Steve Fowlkes, Hob Sanderson, III, Thomas Wayne Sanderson, Lee Hughey, Patrick and Nathan Daughety, and Charles Sisson. Honorary pallbearers will be his card playing friends and the staff of Larry Clark Chevrolet.
