Becker – Jimmie Wesley Kirkpatrick, 85, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at his residence in Becker. Born on July 17, 1931, in Becker, he was a son of the late Jim Wallace and Mattie Parchman Kirkpatrick.
Jimmie was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1949. On February 24, 1952, he married the love of his life, Miriam Harmon and they were blessed with one son. Growing up in his family’s farm-based businesses, Jimmie worked at Kirkpatrick Dairy, The Feed Mill, and the Implement Company. He enjoyed being outdoors on the farm, he worked the fields where they grew cotton, soybeans, corn, and raised cattle. He was also very civic minded and he served the citizens of Monroe County for 25 years. From 1970 – 1995, Jimmy served on the Monroe County Board of Supervisors. He was also a member and past-president of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors in 1982 – 1983. He was a charter member of Three Rivers Planning and Development District and a member of the Jaycees. He also was the first GMC truck dealer in North Mississippi and he retired from working in 2007.
Jimmie was a life-long and very active member of Greenbrier United Methodist Church. In his free time, he enjoyed quail hunting and playing golf with his wife. He was an avid MSU football fan. Jimmie had a big heart and love for family and animals. He was a caring and honest gentleman who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Miriam Kirkpatrick, Becker; son, Jim Kirkpatrick (Terri), Summerville, SC; grandson, Wes Kirkpatrick (Ivy Kathryn), Amory; great-granddaughter, Audrey Dozier; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ethel King; and brother, Richard Kirkpatrick.
His Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, December 8 at Greenbrier United Methodist Church, Becker, with Bro. Sammy Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Kirkpatrick; Johnny and David King; John Bingham; Don Merideth, Jr.; and Bobby Hudson. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard J. Goodgame, Richard King, Randy Kelly and Tommy Nelson.
Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM, Wednesday, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory. Mr. Kirkpatrick will lie-in-state from 10 – 10:50 AM, Thursday at the church.
