Amory – Jewel B. Wright, 94, died on Monday, May 6, 2013, at North MS Medical Center Hospice. Born on April 18, 1919, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Curtis J. and Ellie Lou Webb Berry.
Mrs. Wright attended Monroe County schools. On April 16, 1947, she married Paul W. Wright. Before becoming a homemaker, Mrs. Wright worked as a nurse at Gilmore Memorial Hospital and helped with the move to the new hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Passionate about caring for others, Mrs. Wright enjoyed cooking and having family celebrations in her home; watching old movies; listening to Country and Gospel music; and making jewelry. A mother to many who always made everyone feel welcome, Mrs. Wright, affectionately known as “Mamaw” and “Aunt Jewel,” had a special love for her family and children.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Gail Justice, Beth Schultheiss, Randy Stacy, Paula Wood, Tracy Higgins, George B. Casterline, Lynn Marie Schwartz, Paul A. Wright, and Phillip Moore; 23 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Judy Moore (Billy), Amory; and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by step-daughters, Nina Stacy and Linda Casterline; step-son, Paul Warren Wright, Jr.; grandson, Fred Wright; a great-granddaughter; 3 sisters; and 5 brothers.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, May 9 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandson, great-grandsons, and great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
