Jackson, TN – Jewel Stanford Morris, 92, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital, Jackson, TN. Born on March 15, 1923, in Splunge, MS, she was a daughter of the late Oma Mae Lewis Stanford Brown and Ulysses G. Stanford.
Growing up, Jewel went to school in Splunge. She married the love of her life, William Hugh Morris, on October 9, 1937, and together they raised a son, Larry. They were happily married for 69 years. Jewel was an outstanding homemaker and wonderful loving mother. She worked for the public by making alterations to clothing. She also worked at Amory Garment and at the Hob Nob Shoe Store. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she loved being a part of Sue Brown’s Sunday School Class, teaching GA’s, and helping with Vacation Bible School. A Christian lady with unwavering faith, she was passionate about her family, grandchildren, and Molly, her black lab. Her life was a true testament of Christian love as she took care of her aging mother. She loved to cook for family and do anything for people in need. She loved to listen to Old Southern Gospel Quartets, especially the Statesman and Blackwood Brothers.
Survivors include her son, Larry Morris (Martha), Jackson, TN; grandchildren, Brad Morris (Christie), Jackson, TN, John Morris (Dorothy), Jackson, TN, Melissa Knighton (Terry), Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Sarah Knolton (Bobby) and Chance Morris of Jackson, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Hugh, she was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Brittany Anne Morris; brothers, Trenton Stockton, Cale Ray Stockton, and Eldon Stanford.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, September 2, 2015, in Masonic Cemetery with Dr. Allen Simpson and Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Pallbearers will be Tom Crook, Tim Watson, Jerry Reece, Curtis Lewellen, Kevin Crook, and Bobby Stockton. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Morris and John Morris.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:45 PM, Wednesday, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
