Aberdeen – Jewel Cruber Johnson, 86, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Pioneer Community Hospital. Born on April 7, 1928, in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late Will Henry and Edna Lee Jackson Cruber.
Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1946. On June 9, 1950, she married Charles Coleman Johnson. Enjoying people and working with the public, Mrs. Johnson was a Deputy Chancery clerk with Monroe County from 1968 - 2012. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Aberdeen. Her daughters, who were the joy of her life, and she created many memories as they traveled to the beach, mountains, and to watch the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 26. Mrs. Johnson was passionate about Mississippi State baseball, loved to talk and never met a stranger.
Survivors include her daughters, Teresa Johnson and Melissa Johnson of Aberdeen; nieces and nephews, Christina Cox (Kenny), Elizabeth Cruber McMillian, and William Cruber; great-niece and nephew, Will Cox, Leigh Ann Campbell, Penny Freed and Bill Leech.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty J. Cruber and Gertrude Leech; and brothers, Carson H., J. T., Garvin, and Bobby Cruber.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, January 23 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. David Harrell officiating. Burial will follow in Young Memorial Garden. Pallbearers will be Kenny and Will Cox, Ronnie Boozer, Jimmy Forbus and Mike Freed. Honorary pallbearer will be William Cruber.
Visitation will be from 5- 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to a charity of choice.
