S Jewel Benton

Amory – Dorothy Jewel Henson Benton, 85, died on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Merit Health Gilmore Hospital. Born in Yazoo County, MS on September 15, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Ruth Henson.
She attended the Bentonia schools. Her greatest joys were spending time with family, friends and being a member of the church that she loved, Hatley Missionary Baptist Church. She married James Kenneth Benton on April 23, 1949. Mrs. Benton was a wonderful homemaker and seamstress. Her favorite pastimes were listening to Gospel and bluegrass music, watching the Atlanta Braves baseball, gardening, playing dominos and rook. Being the proud mother and grandmother, she loved to see the success of her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Margie Farrar (Billy) Amory; son, Joe Benton (Janice), Hatley; grandchildren: Kevin Farrar (Chrissy), Jeremy Farrar (Chyna), both of Amory, Brad Benton (Shelli), Hernando and, Jill Benton Barrett, Birmingham, AL; Great grandchildren: Garrett, Faith and Mary Elizabeth Benton, Daniel, Emma and Cloe and Taylor Farrar, Jasper Whitaker, Teagan Monaghan, Zoe and Jacob Barrett; sisters: Blanche Hester, Yazoo City, Gladys Creel, Flora, MS; brother: Lamar Henson (Barbara), Florence, MS; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Kenneth Benton; brother, Gilbert Henson and sister, Gwen Phillips.
A celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 14, 2016 at E.E. Pickle, Amory with Bro. Gary Self and Bro. Sidney McLeod officiating. Burial will follow at the Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Crook, George King, Tony Dill, Sammy Lewis, Chris Crenshaw, Bobby Cantrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Benton, Garrett Benton, Jeremy Farrar, Kevin Farrar, Daniel Farrar, Jimmy Ritter, Lloyd Pearson, Jimmy Dale Parham, William Puckett, Jacob Barrett.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Wednesday evening, July 13, 2016 at the funeral home.
