Smithville – Jettie Laura “Mama Jet” Brasfield, 93, died on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at River Place Nursing Center. Born on August 3, 1919, in Pontotoc, she was a daughter of the late Hartwell and Dawny Gregory.
Mrs. Brasfield attended schools in Pontotoc. On August 23, 1934, she married Bascom Brasfield. After forty years of service as a seamstress, Mrs. Brasfield retired from working in the local pants factory. She was a member of Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. A sweet and hard-working lady, Mrs. Brasfield enjoyed and working in her flowers and garden, cooking fish at The Plantation, playing bingo with her friends, and Country and Gospel music.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Sanderson (Robert), Smithville; son, Tommy Brasfield, Sr. (Helen), Northport, AL; sisters, Net Stevens, Smithville and Mae Milligan, Tuscaloosa, AL; brothers, Albert Gregory, Adamsville, AL; grandchildren, Greg Sanderson (Diane), Lynn Sanderson (Kim), Tommy Brasfield, Jr., Michael Brasfield, Jimmy Brasfield (Talisha), Sunny Pace (Steve), and Crystal Ferguson (Ricky); great-grandchildren, Jesse Sanderson, Bobby Lee Sanderson, Starr Perry, David Streets, Beth Streets; Nick and Donovan Turner; Jaylee Pace; and Tommy Brasfield, III; great-great-grandchildren, Trent Sanderson, Megan Streets, Jordan Bray, Lynsey Bray, Sorayla Brasfield, Sadie Laura Brasfield, Stephen Brasfield, and Cody Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Gregory and Herman Gregory; and by one sister, Eunice Lann; son, Jerry Lynn Brasfield; and a grandson, Gary Sanderson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, February 6 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Kelvin Price officiating. Burial will follow in Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg, Lynn, Jesse, and Bobby Lee Sanderson; Jimmy and Michael Brasfield; and David Streets. Honorary pallbearers will be River Place staff.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
