Amory – Jerry L. Thompson, “J. T.,” 65, died on Monday, April 15, 2013, at his residence. Born on May 28, 1947, in Smithville, he was a son of Mary P. Handley Thompson the late Rubel L. Thompson.
Jerry attended Hatley High School. He began working as a presser and later became a supervisor at Amory Garment, retiring after 40 years of service. He was of Baptist faith, friendly, outspoken, and an easy going person. Jerry loved his mama and his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, gardening, playing pool, Country music, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Mary P. Thompson, Amory; daughter, Darlene Goodin (Jeremy), Amory; son, Danny Thompson (Sonya), Smithville; brothers, Dennis Thompson (Sue) and Donald G. Thompson (Tamie) of Amory; half-sister, Gwendolyn Hickman; grandchildren, Ashley Rhynes, Vanessa Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Jeremy Pounds, and Carol Pounds; great-grandchildren, Noah Lawson and Bayleigh Gist; nieces and nephews, Blake Thompson, Brady Thompson, Angie Parker, and Maria Thompson; and special friend, Jerry Roche.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Thompson; and a son, Jason L. Thompson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, April 18 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Reid Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Goodin, David White, Anthony White, Jerry Roche, Tommy Harlow, and Cory Gist. Honorary pallbearer will be Noah Lawson.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
