Amory--Jerry Frank Mitchell passed away at his residence on February 26, 2017. Born in Amory on April 2, 1954, he was a son of the late Arthur Willard and Lula Mae Shields Mitchell. He attended Becker School. He was a member of Calvary Baptist church. Jerry married the love of his life, Geraldine McDonald, on December 22, 1973.
Jerry’s career included construction work and operation of heavy equipment. He was fortunate to be one who worked on the building of the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway. He was employed by Burns construction in Columbus.
Jerry was a family man. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Family was the center of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors where he would garden. He especially loved to grow yard long green beans. In his spare time, he would go hunting for deer and fish for crappie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters: Dorothy Kern, Mattie Bell McGraw, Evelyn DeLong, Betty Mae Poore, Eunice Harmon, Mavis Christian; brothers, Everett, Malcolm, Hartsfol, Alston, Joice, Foy, Guy, Wayne, and Charles Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Mitchell; son, Jeremy (Chad) Mitchell, Amory; sister, Jimmie Barnes (Ed), Sulligent, Al; brothers: Donald Ray Mitchell (Barbara), Becker, Earnest Mitchell (Willistene), Cason Community, Ellis Mitchell (Annette), Becker and Herman Mitchell (Dottie), Becker. He was PaPaw to his grandchildren: Zane and Harley Collier, Jackson and Emily Bell and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Jerry Mitchell will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 1, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Rodney Waycaster and Bro. Mac Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: James Tate, James Mitchell, Ralph Mitchell, Jim Best, Kerry Jetton, and Van Hilt.
Visitation for Mr. Mitchell will be from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the funeral home.
