Greenwood Springs – Jerry G. McCollum, 51, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at his residence. Born on September 27, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was a son of John Gilbert McCollum and the late Nettie Louise White McCollum.
Jerry attended Hatley School. Before becoming disabled, he worked as a brick layer in the construction industry. Jerry attended Shiloh North United Methodist Church in Sulligent. Outgoing and sometimes stubborn, he was very loving to his family and friends. A “momma’s boy,” Jerry was passionate about helping folks by working in their yards. He especially enjoyed helping the Hill family. Jerry enjoyed brim fishing, deer hunting, and playing dominoes. He liked to listen to Country music, and the Van Halen song, “Jump.”
Survivors include his father, John McCollum of Greenwood Springs; daughter, Kirsten Hibner of Spokane Valley, WA; grandchildren, Liam Avery and Everly Hibner; sisters, Lois Kennedy of Becker-Athens Community, Linda Isbell (Donnie) of Greenwood Springs, and Margaret Vaughan (Lavies) of Hatley; brothers, John L. McCollum (Karen) of Athens, and Billy McCollum (Sheila) of Greenwood Springs; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Mamie Sheffield of Tupelo, Howard Standifer of Smithville, and Thomas and Becky Hill of Smithville.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Howell; brother, George G. McCollum; and special friend, Benjamin Wax.
His Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Shiloh North United Methodist Church, Shiloh Road, Sulligent, AL 35586 with Bro. Jeff Scott officiating.
His family will receive friends following the service.
