Amory – Jerry L. “Goose” Guess, 78, died on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at North MS Medical Center Hospice. Born on May 31, 1935, in Sikeston, MO, he was the youngest of 4 sons and a daughter of the late William A. & Lydia Nola Holder Guess.
Raised in Sikeston, MO, Jerry graduated from high school there and attended college in Missouri. Following college, he served in the US Army, where he was sent to Alaska in the ski unit; this part he enjoyed.
On July 5, 1960, Jerry went to work with McKesson Drug Company as a trainee for sales. Spending the next 37 years with McKesson in the Mid-South and South in several divisions and several positions, he retired in Jackson, MS, on July 5, 1997. Jerry was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served the Administrative Board at different times and on several church committees.
If you knew Jerry since his return to Amory in 2000, you surely knew his best companion, “Scott,” a little black Scotty dog that was with him everywhere and always. There was another dog, “Blondie,” a poodle that was with them sometimes. People’s Drug Store was a main hang-out for them. Lastly, there was Toby, who gave a lot of laughs at the end.

Guess (Sue), Sikeston, MO, and Harold “Bud” E. Guess (Doris), Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law, Betty Lou Guess, St. Louis; 9 nieces and nephews; and lots of “little ones.”
