Becker – Jeffery Carroll Shields, 51, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at NMMC in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was born December 14, 1961, to Eloise Pace Shields and the late Carroll Shields. He graduated from Amory High School where he was a drummer in the award-winning Amory Panther Band. He married Margaret Howell in 1981 and attended Becker Baptist Church.
Jeff worked for 31 years in the chemical industry serving as supervisor at Georgia Gulf Chemicals in Aberdeen, Mississippi. He loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and farmer. For the last eight years, he has been a vendor at the Tupelo Farmers Market, being known for his great purple hull peas and for some of the best honey in northeast Mississippi. Jeff’s love of the outdoors was only surpassed by his love for his family and his Savior.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Randy Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of almost 32 years, Margaret Howell Shields of Becker; two daughters, Kaleena Shields Richardson and Antwann of Columbus; Lesley Camille Shields of Tupelo; one son, Jared Heath Shields of Becker; one grandson, Jace Richardson of Columbus; his mother, Eloise Pace Shields of Becker; one brother, Keith Shields and Debbie of Becker; one nephew, Dustin Shields and Mary of Amory; one niece, Holli Helton and Joey of Becker; two great-nephews, Easton Shields of Starkville and Mason Helton of Becker; and a loving extended family of in-laws.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Laura Pace and Jim and Maude Shields.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Tate, Terry Barnes, Carl Brangenberg, Randy Harmon, Greg Edwards, Bill Tate, Brad Tate, Lee Boozer, Paul Kennedy, Billy Kirkpatrick, Jimmy Ashley, Steve Ponder and Corey Ponder.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the funeral home.
