Amory – Jeanne Elizabeth Stockton, 87, died on Friday, March 14, 2014, at River Place Nursing Center. Born on April 19, 1926, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Locke Stockton, Sr., and Ida Hall Stockton.
Jeanne graduated from Amory High School, Class of 1944. After 27 years of service, she retired as a dental assistant for Dr. J. K. McCowan. For many years, Jeanne worked in the First Baptist Church nursery and also in their “Wee Wisdom” preschool for ten years. Having a strong love for children, she also did babysitting for First United Methodist Church. Strong in her faith, Jeanne was a member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and at weddings of friends for many years. A very happy person, she was a lifelong resident of Amory, cherishing her church family and the people of Amory.
She is survived by her sister, Doris Eloise Stockton Lewis, Silver Spring, MD; nephews, John Lewis, Silver Springs, MD, and Joe Stockton, Lawrenceville, GA; and nieces, Susie Reeves, Stockbridge, GA, Lucille Thompson, Byhalia, Anna Lynn Borden, Germantown, TN, and Anne Roney Stockbridge, GA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, George Edward Stockton; brothers, Joseph Herbert Stockton and Locke Stockton, Jr.; sisters, Martha Lucille Holladay, Mary Nell Thompson, Anna Margaret Counce, and Irma Mae Stockton.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be church members.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the service hour at the funeral home.
