SMITHVILLE - Gloria Jean Harlow Dickerson, 69, died Thursday, January 9, 2014 at her home in Smithville of breast cancer. She was born on June 20, 1944, in Tupelo, MS, to Red and Geneva Burroughs Harlow.
She was a homemaker and did book work and tax returns with her husband. She was a member of the Amory Church of Christ. She graduated from Amory High school in May 1962. She then married Arthur Paul Dickerson on June 22, 1962. She lived in Amory, Nettleton, Starkville, Pensacola, FL, Tupelo, back to Nettleton for 21 years, Amory, and finished out her life in Smithville. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, flowers, swinging in her swing on the front porch, and sitting in her glider swing under the arbor Paul made for her. She loved her new house that was built in 2007. She enjoyed her family and Paul's family get-togethers at Thanksgiving, where close to 50 people would attend. She loved the times she babysat her 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters when their parents were away from home.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Paul Dickerson; her daughter, Teresa Michele Semore and husband, Garvis of Henderson, TN; her son, Paul Timothy Dickerson and wife, Jennifer of Smithville; her grandchildren, Daniel Semore and wife, Rachel; Dustin Semore and wife, Olivia; Katrina Marie Dickerson and Makaela Noelle Dickerson; a great-grandson, Shepard Paul Semore; her mother, Geneva Burroughs Harlow; her sister, Mary Jane Leach and husband, Tommy; half-brothers, Sean, Benjamin, and Jason Harlow; two uncles, Ottis Burroughs of Amory and Billy Harlow of Nettleton. Her special friends include Jerry and Connie Self, James and Annette Joyce, Paul and Juanita Saffran, Dean Pace Bennett, and Patsy Frederick.
She was preceded in death by her father, Red Harlow; grandparents, Bryant and Mary Lou Hawkins Burroughs and Bailey and Kate Wright Harlow; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John F. and Ethelyn Gullick Dickerson; and niece, Amy Lynn Dickerson.
Pallbearers will be Paul Saffran, Jerry Cooper, Daniel Semore, Dustin Semore, Lee Allen, and Marshall Eubanks, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the elders, preachers, and deacons of the Amory Church of Christ.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 12 at the Amory Church of Christ with James Joyce and Jerry Self officiating. Graveside service will be held at Haughton Memorial Park. E. E. Pickle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Saturday at the Amory Church of Christ.
