Smithville –Jean Faulkner Brasfield, 86, died on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at, her residence Smithville. Born on July 12, 1929, in Splunge, she was a daughter of the late Paul Robert and Lillie Bell McDonald Faulkner.
Mrs. Brasfield was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1948. She married the love of her life David Ray Brasfield on May 6, 1948. Mrs. Brasfield, along with her husband, owned and operated Smithville Hardware Store where she was a florist. Mrs. Brasfield was a member of Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where she had a ministry of cooking for others and making flowers. She loved spending time with her family, and not just her immediate family. Everyone she met became friends for life. She cherished her Christian family. Her favorite music included Hymns and Southern Gospel.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Sumerford (Kenny), Smithville and Renee Harris (Chris), Smithville; grandchildren, Ben Sumerford (Hannah), Tupelo, Will Sumerford, Amory, Jake Cromwell (Megan), Simpsonville, SC, Bethany Sumerford, Jackson, Mari Caitlyne Minga (Mitch), Splunge, John Harris (Misty), Amory; great-grandchildren, Savannah Cromwell, Will Cromwell, Jennie Grace Sumerford, Jack Sumerford; Kayleigh, John Kyle and Kentleigh Harris; nieces and nephews, Debra Moore (Richard), Jeff Brasfield, Pam Brasfield, Neal Brasfield and Billy Brasfield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Ray Brasfield, and sister, Eloise Kennedy.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, July 18 at Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Smithville, with Bro. John Johnson and Bro. Van Dale Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank Gaddy, Chris Cowley, Ronnie Boozer, Allen Duncan, Barney Vann, Butch Palmer, Ed Cox, and Brandon Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bo Hathcock, Jimmy Douglas Cowley, Charles Cummings, Ira Kennedy and Doug Stevens.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Friday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory.
Memorials may be given to Pearce Chapel Youth Fund.
