Madison, AL – Janet Renfroe Raper, 59, died on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Huntsville Hospital. Born on August 28, 1954, in Hazelhurst, MS, she was a daughter of the late Melvin Ray and Helen Miller Renfroe.
After finishing Nursing School at Grenada County Hospital, Janet worked as an LPN in Amory and Huntsville, leaving to become a stay-at-home mom. She was proud to have home-schooled her son and his winning first-place two years consecutively in State math competitions. Janet married Joe Raper, Jr., on September 1, 1977. Strong in her faith, she was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Madison. A very loving person with a big heart, Janet was passionate about cats and dogs and giving stray animals a home. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her cats and dogs, listening to Classic Rock, and SEC football, especially cheering for the Crimson Tide.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Raper, Jr., and son, Joseph Michael Raper, III, of Madison, AL; sister, Becky Burke (Ray), Amory; niece, Julie Brewer (Tim) and great-nephew, Aaron Brewer of Toney AL; and special friend, Beth Brown, Madison, AL.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, January 25 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Masonic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 – 10:45 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.
