Amory –Jan Ostrowski, 61, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital, Amory. Born on November 1, 1957, in Aberdeen, she was the daughter of the late Vance “Buddy” Burroughs and Alice Mildred Holloway Burroughs.
Jan graduated from Amory High School with the Class of 1975. She furthered her education at Vaughn’s Beauty College. She worked during High School for J. O. Prude and later she worked as a legal secretary for Julian Fagan. She retired in 2000. She married the love of her life, Gordon Ostrowski and they were blessed with a large family. Janet was a fun loving, kind and caring woman who loved the Lord. She was a member of the Reality Church in Vernon, AL and her faith in God and her loving family were her foundation throughout her life. A woman with a servant heart, Jan was a great cook and she loved taking food to people who couldn’t prepare food for themselves. Some of the best food she made was crawfish pie, mac & cheese, and Mexican cornbread. The many meals she prepared with love warmed the hearts of many people in Monroe County.
She cherished her time with her family, grandchildren and her pets, Peaches and Bandit. A true southern lady who always looked fabulous and dressed to the nine. She was tender hearted yet very competitive and loved a good challenge. Jan was a pool shark who had won numerous tournaments and she was great at playing cards. She was considerate, sweet, strong willed and determined. She enjoyed making memories and traveling, she especially liked going to the beach and to Memphis. Janet liked listening to all sorts of music such as Country, Oldies, and Rock and Roll. She was a diehard Ole Miss Football fan and loved baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves and Amory’s own, Mitch Moreland. She loved doing crafts especially door wreaths, cross-stitching, and making blankets. Jan could fix anything and she was so faithful to her family and friends. Jan leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories for her family and friends to treasure for a lifetime.
She is survived by her daughters, Alice Ostrowski Casey (Travis Williams), Wren, Ginger Ostrowski, Nettleton; sons, Russell Ostrowski (Beth), Saltillo, Stanley Ostrowski (Melissa), Aberdeen; brother, Van Burroughs (Sandra), Wren; grandchildren, Skylar & Russell Casey; Taylor, Ragan & Stan; Millie, Olivia & Luke; great-grandchildren, Arie, Naddie, and Lincoln; niece and nephew, Rachael and Landon; and special friends, Janet Williams and Dickie Roberts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Ostrowski.
Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Pastor Jason Arends and Bro. Dylan Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Randolph, Dale Honeycutt Jr., Bobby Camp, Landon Burroughs, Stan Ostrowski, Luke Ostrowski, and Matt Butler.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 2:50 pm on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the funeral home.
