James Wilson Williams

Amory – James Wilson Williams, 90, died on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at his residence. Born on December 27, 1923, in Dancy, MS, he was a son of the late William Estell and Orlean Dismukes Williams.

Mr. Williams graduated from Tremont High School. He was a WWII Veteran who served in the 483rd Ordinance in the European theater as an U.S. Army Tank Transporter. He earned the ETO ribbon with five battle stars. In November of 2011, he received the Legion of Honor Medal for Service from France for his service to that country. On April 28, 1943, he married Nelle Brasfield Williams. Mr. Williams retired after 22 years working in the printing business, at the Memphis Publishing Company (The Commercial Appeal), in Memphis, TN. He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Amory. He loved providing for his family, playing golf, and investing in the stock market. He enjoyed a good home cooked meal and his favorite music was big band and country music.

Survivors include his wife, Nelle Brasfield Williams, Amory; daughter, Lisa Perry (Bill), Munford, TN; son, Joel Williams (Debi), Olive Branch; grandchildren, Laura Rainey-MacIssac (Roger), Birmingham, AL, Sarah Rainey Sheppard (Brian), Evergreen, CO, James Thompson, Nashville, TN; great grandchildren, Griffin Sheppard and Kai Sheppard of Colorado; 3 step-grandsons, Alex (Holly), Aaron (Shea), and Nicholas McClosky; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Williams (Nora), Ocean Springs, MS and Paul Williams (Katherine), Bryant, TX.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 23 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Rev. Brian Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery, Aberdeen. Pallbearers will be James Thompson, Bill Perry, and Roger MacIssac.

Visitation will be from 9 – 10:50 AM, Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
