James Ellis Sugg Jr., 60, of Trumann, AR, passed away on January 16, 2025. He was born on September 18, 1964, in Westpoint, MS, to James and Patsy Sugg.
He grew up in Westpoint, MS, where he graduated High School in 1982. After High School, James attended Mississippi State University. He would go on to live in Memphis, TN, Tulsa, OK, and Trumann, AR. While in school, he played trombone in the band, enjoyed motorcycle riding, hanging out with friends, and making everyone laugh wherever he went.
He had a beautiful voice and often sang at Trinity Baptist, in the school choir, and in many local musicals. He started working early in life as a paperboy for the Daily Times Leader where he later became a writer and photographer. He also worked in the moving and agricultural industries.
He and his former spouse, Julia Sugg, became parents to his pride and joy, son, Riley Wilson Sugg. He and Riley enjoyed fishing, making each other laugh, and just spending time together. Riley inherited his dad’s talent of writing, love of music, and his sense of humor. During his last ten years, James worked closely with family in Trumann, AR. He also helped care for a special friend’s loved one.
James is survived by his mother, Patsy Sugg; son, Riley Sugg; sister, Melissa (Jon) Bradley; nephew, TJ Bradley; special friend, Trish Watts; aunt, Joan Cash; uncles, Harvey (Betty) Anderson, Jim (Frances) Anderson, and David (Martha) Anderson; and many cousins.
James was preceded in death by his father, James Ellis Sugg; grandparents, Harry Sugg, Sr., Mary Riley Sugg, and Harvey (Helen) Anderson; aunt, Gwen (James) Warrem; uncles, Claud Cash, Harry (Ruby) Sugg Jr., and Larry Anderson.
Celebration of Life Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 2:00 pm at New Hope Cemetery, Hatley, MS. Friends and family are asked to gather there to honor his memory.
