James "Sonny" Capps

Amory – James David “Sonny” Capps, 73, died on Friday, March 23, 2012, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on February 3, 1939, in Amory, he was a son of the late Olen and Dorothy Pounds Capps.

Sonny graduated from Becker High School, Class of 1957. Following graduation, he honorably served in the US Army. On April 6, 1969, he married Brenda Howard. Self-employed, Sonny was an appliance repairman. He was of the Baptist faith. Energetic and fun-loving, Sonny enjoyed playing golf, boating, watching College football, NASCAR, and Country music. A kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, March 26 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Burks officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Zakk Stovall, Josh Capps, Tommy Wilkerson, Richard Adams, Anthony Daniels, and Wayne Childress.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Howard Capps, Amory; sons, James D. “Jamey” Capps, Jr. (Becky), and Barney Capps, of Amory; grandchildren, Austin Capps, Zakk Stovall, Caitlyn Capps, and Josh Capps; great-grandchild, Jacob Stovall; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Ann Welch, Betty Harper (Billy), and Kay Moffett (Ricky); brother-in-law, Richard Howard (Diane); and special friend, Bill Casady.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Herring; brother, Curtis Capps; daughters, Lissa and Laura Lee Capps; and special friends, Eddie Wilkerson and Tommy Maxey.
