Saltillo – James “Jim” Roberts, 79, rode off into the Sunset on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at his residence. Born on March 22, 1935, in Greenwood Springs, he was a son of the late Eldridge and Millie Harron Roberts.
Jim graduated from Amory High School, Class of 1953. He served in the US Army National Guard. Moving to California in 1955, Jim began working for Jessup Farms. After six years, he went into the brewing industry, worked for Pabst and Budweiser Breweries, and retired as a brew master in December 1991. While in California, he started “Jim Roberts Round Up” in Los Angeles. Jim served on the executive committee for the Golden Boot. Upon returning to Mississippi, he moved to Amory, where he had several business ventures, including co-owner of Amory Twin Cinema. He moved to Saltillo in December 2008.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Linda Parker Roberts, Saltillo; sons, Mike Roberts (Ann), Amory, Mark Roberts (Laura), Tremont, Kenny Roberts (Sandra), Hamilton, Jackie Parker (Robbie); daughter, Renee Fowler, Tremont; 12 grandchildren; 2 great- grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; and beloved dog, Bella.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Roberts.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, July 22 at Meadowood Baptist Church with Bro. Scotty Witcher officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zack Fowler; Rocky Smith; Jimmy, Neil, and Monty Roberts; Kenny Stokes; and Michael Mattingly.
Visitation will be from 5– 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
