Richard “Whit” Whitlock

Amory – James Richard “Whit” Whitlock, 75, began his new life in Heaven on Saturday, November 12, 2022. He was born in his home place in Monroe County, MS on December 23, 1946, to the late Rubel Whitlock and Ruth Buchannan Whitlock.

Whit grew up in a family with three siblings in Monroe County, MS. He learned early the value of being a hard worker as well as loving sports, and he had his parents to thank for what was taught to him. Whit attended Becker School and graduated from Amory High School with the Class of 1965. He also attended ICC in Fulton, MS. A dedicated employee, he worked as an Electrician for Ker-McGee for 37 years where he won numerous awards for his contribution to the company.

He was blessed by God with a wonderful family. He married his wife, Nina Pugh Whitlock on July 21, 2011. Their family shared many great memories together through the years. Whit believed in God and His saving grace. He was a member of Grace Chapel Baptist Church in Aberdeen and he was a kind person, always pleasant and willing to help others.

Good-natured and patient, Whit enjoyed the things in life that took time for perfection, including duck hunting, turkey hunting, and playing golf. He was talented and steady with his hands as he repaired, created and customized firearms. Through the years, he was a member of Duck Unlimited as well as the NRA and he made so many friends through golf and hunting. He loved to be with his family and friends doing all sort of outside activities besides hunting, he liked to water ski in his younger days. Whit liked to listen to rock and roll music as well as 60’s music. All around he was a good natured man that loved others.

There will never be another Whit and his presence and personality will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Nina Whitlock, Amory; son, Terry Wayne Whitlock, Amory; step-granddaughter, Sheaden Boggan; sisters, Nancy R McCollum (Ray), Fulton, and Mary Dale Springer, Amory; nieces and nephews, Herbert Springer, Jr. (Miranda), Gay Kirsh (David), Sandra Nell Andrews (Andy), Charlie Whitlock, and Michelle Crompton (Mike), Jason West (lori), and Jimmy Ray “Bobo” McCollum; special friend, Shirley Whitaker Whitlock.
