Hatley – James “Bill” McCrary, 73, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at his residence. Born on October 6, 1941, in Pickens County, AL, he was the son of the late Jenetta McCrary and was reared by the late George and Lizzie McCrary and Buddy and Trannie McCrary.
After graduating high school, he served in the Alabama National Guard. He married Mavis Pickle on November 18, 1979. Bill retired from Cumulus Fiber, Verona. A man of faith, he was a member of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church. Hardworking, determined and one who never met a stranger, Bill was passionate about helping his family and friends. He enjoyed going to church, taking long trips in the motorhome, and Gospel and Bluegrass music.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mavis P. McCrary, Hatley; daughter, Taresa Lann (Michael), Vernon, AL; sons, Chris McCrary (Teresa), Smithville and Jerry McCrary (Amanda), Millport, AL; mother of his children, Frances McCrary, Millport; grandchildren, Heston Yerby, Vernon, AL, Kadie and Bo McCrary, Millport, and Ashley Madison (Jake), Jasper, AL; great-grandchild, Akelei Madison, Jasper; sisters, Sally Brandon, Columbus, Patty Crowell, Millport, and Mary Solar, Reform, AL; brothers, Allen McCrary, Pickensville, AL; Floyd and Robert Earl McCrary, and Terry Mordecai, Millport; and Ken Burnett, Amory; aunt, Roberta Homans, Pickens County, AL; brother-and-sister-in-law, Robert “Jr.” and Mabel Chambers, Hatley; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother and family who reared him, he was preceded in death by Lewis and Minnie Homans.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, November 20 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Burnett Allen, Floyd, Robert Earl and Bo McCrary; Richard Chambers; and Michael Prestridge. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home
