James Little

Smithville - James Robert Little, 80, died on Friday, September 10, 2010, at his residence. Born on July 18, 1930, in Monroe County, he was a son of the late Winsford and Ronie Taylor Little.
Mr. Little honorably served his country as a paratrooper in the US Army following World War II. For 21 years, he taught auto mechanics at the Vo-Tech at Amory High School, owned Little’s Gin and was a farmer. Mr. Little was a member of Smithville Baptist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church, Amory where he taught a Sunday school class. A wonderful person whose work was his hobby, he loved is family and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Mr. Little was vice-president of Gaines Trace Water Association and a member of the School Teachers Retirement Organization.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jimmie Little, Smithville; daughters, Cynthia (Jim) Duncan, Hot Springs, AR, Carol (Bob) Carey, Alaska, and Cathy Roberta Little of the home; sisters, Lalia Brown and Arweda Wright, Fultondale, AL, Dorsey (James) Parker, Iuka, Margie (Johnnie) Burt, Smithville, Linda (Dail) Sanders, Columbus, Ruby (Mark) Anderson, Texas, Faye (Phil) Sargent, Smithville, and Sonya (Wayne) Oliver, Florida; grandchildren, Eric (Julie) Cruber, Washington, DC, Alison Langston and Dan Conner, Arkansas; great-grandson, Grayson Langston, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Welch, Mary Ellen Bunn and Lubie Fikes, and step-mother, Ruby Little Fletcher.
A Funeral service for James Little will be held at 11 AM, Monday at the funeral home in Amory with Bro. Wes White officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dewayne Pickle, Jack Horne, John Holland, Ralph Dill, Glenn Devall and James Parker. Honorary pallbearers will Joe Wayne Holland, Johnnie Cadden, Huey Little, Billy Glasgow and Herbert Little.
Visitation will be from 5:30 – 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home in Amory.
