Aberdeen – James Clyde “Jim” Mize, 55, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Pioneer Community Hospital, Aberdeen. Born on December 18, 1959, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, he was a son of the late James Thomas and Charlie Pearl Hayes Mize.
Jim attended Hatley School and began serving in the military at age 17. A dedicated man, he served 33 years for the U.S. Army National Guard. He fought in Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom and he was very proud of his military experience. Jim later worked as a truck driver. The most important thing in his life was his family, specifically his children, grandchildren and his dog, Cocoa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting for sport, and he was real talented at building firearms. Jim was a member of the N.R.A. and the Red Hill Hunting Club.
Survivors include his daughter Brianna Prestage (Bobby), Gattman; sons, Jay Mize (Anne Miller), Athens, Charlie Mize (Jessie McCoun), Aberdeen; sisters, Lois Cooke (Austin), Columbus, Elaine Welch (Marvin), Athens, Judy Owens, Prattville, AL, Kay Smith (Jimbo), Columbus; brother, Tommy Mize (Nancy), Corinth; grandchildren, Alyssa, Bobby, Morgan and Addison Prestage, Shelby, Taylor, and Waylon Miller; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Neil, Les, and “T-Bone.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Mize.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, January 17 at Athens Baptist Church, 50137 Athens Quincy Rd, Aberdeen, MS 39730 with Bro. Billy Wayne Whatley officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Friday, January 16 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
