James "Jim" Carruth

Hamilton, AL - James A. "Jim" Carruth, 71, died on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at North MS Medical Center, Hamilton, AL. Born on March 4, 1939, in Beaverton, AL, he was a son of the late Alfred Blackman and Velma Lorene Holcomb Carruth.
Jim was a graduate of Greenwood Springs High School, Class of 1957. Very patriotic, he honorably served his country in the US Air Force for seven years during Vietnam where he also served with the honor guard for President Kennedy. After his discharge, he graduated from the University of South Alabama. From 1985 – 1992, Jim managed Pizza Inn, which later became Pizza Hut, in Amory. Moving to another store with his family working by his side, he ran Pizza Inn in Tupelo. Upon leaving the restaurant business, Jim worked as a government inspector until retiring. Well versed on the Bible, Jim was Baptist. He enjoyed listening to Country, Blues and Gospel music. In his spare time, Jim took pride in doing detailed hand carvings, writing and having books published, having morning coffee meetings on Facebook with friends across the United States and watching Fox News, especially Bill O’Reilly. A history buff, his idol was General George Patton.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy Carruth, Hamilton, AL; sons, Andy Carruth, Amory and Daniel (Tiffany) Carruth, Hamilton, AL; sister, Betty Cantrell, Amory; grandchildren, Jessica, Amber, Cameron and Noah Carruth; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Randy & Joan Potts, Booneville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Carruth.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Funderburg officiating. Burial will be in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mitch Livingston, Raymond Tribble, Randy Potts, Joshua Funderburg, Dallas Burks and Cameron Carruth. Honorary pallbearers will be Capt. Tony Cantrell, USAF, and Gary Cantrell.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.
