Amory – James Carol ‘J.C.’ Cantrell, 71, died on Wednesday, September 27, 2011 at his residence. A native of Gattman MS, he was born on July 3, 1940 to the late Robert Terry and Ola Mae Pierce Cantrell.
Mr. Cantrell attended Hamilton Schools. J.C. married Betty Carruth on March 1, 1960, who survives. He was a retired tool and die machinist working for Walker Manufacturing in Aberdeen for 24 years. He also worked for GM in Arlington, Texas. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Amory. J.C. was able to impact his family and many friends from the love of God that was in his heart. Attending church and spending time with his family and friends were important to him. He also enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Carruth Cantrell of Amory; his daughter, Tammy Woods of Aberdeen; his sons, MAJ(S) James A. Cantrell of Navarre, FL and Gary D. Cantrell of Washington UT; son-in-law, Keith Woods; daughter-in-law, Shelley Cantrell; sisters, Fae Cantrell, Rose Coker, Carolyn Knight all of Amory, and Nell Inman of Southaven MS; grandchildren, Andrea Wright (Chuck), Jerren and Cody Woods, Kaitlyn, Joshua and Claire Cantrell; a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph and John Cantrell; his sisters, Evelyn Woods, Miriam McKay, and Terry Mae Killian.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am, Saturday, October 1, 2011 at First Freewill Baptist Church in Amory with Bro. Chris Mitchell officiating. Burial will be a private service in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be James K. Easter, Phillip Wise, Ricky Gault, Larry Frye, Joey Knight, and Tony Sagely. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Saints Sunday School Class of First Freewill Baptist Church, his grandsons, and his nephews.
Memorial may be sent to American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd, Suite 1010, Rockville MD 20852.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday, September 30th, 6-8 pm and the body will lie in state at First Freewill Baptist Church in Amory from 9:30 am until service time.
