Aberdeen – James Isaac “Ike” Word, 88, became totally healed and began his new life on October 12, 2022. He was born on January 21, 1934, in Wren, Mississippi to the late Charles Barnes Word, Sr., and Margret La-dell Allison Word.
Ike grew up in Monroe County, graduated from Wren High School and attended some college at Mississippi State University. A patriot, he proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1956 until 1962. He married his sweetheart, Martha Word on October 3, 1958 and together they were blessed with four sons. Ike worked in sales and he spent the majority of his career at Southern Duo Fast manufacturing.
He was a great husband, father and provider for his family. He loved the Lord greatly and lived his faith out daily in his walk. He was a member and Deacon at Friendship Baptist Church in Aberdeen. Of all his accomplishments in life, he was most proud of his sons and the men they became in life. He loved his family dearly and would do anything for them.
In his down time, Ike liked to fish and listen to gospel music. He also enjoyed solving all the world’s problems with the fellow patrons at the Huddle House, Fountain Grill, and Penny Lane’s Restaurant in Aberdeen. A well known face in Aberdeen, Ike’s smile will be missed by so many.
Ike left behind a legacy of love and faith for his family to cherish and follow. The memories made will live on.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Word, Aberdeen; four sons, John Word (Vera), Wichita Falls, TX, Jamie Word, Amory, MS, Joey Word, Amory, MS, and Jeff Word, Aberdeen, MS; 5 grandchildren, Clark Word, Zack Word, Tonya Word, Jonathan Word, and Marti Word; nephew, Jimmy Lee Word.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Charles B Word Jr and Mabry Shell Word as well as his nephews Eddie Lee Word and David Shell Word.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 11:00 am at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Todd Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Tranquil Cemetery in Wren, MS.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 am until the service hour at the funeral home in Amory.
