Verona – James Howard Gaines, 86, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on April 28, 1929, in Le Panto, Arkansas, he was a son of the late Howard and Lucille Parchman Gaines.
James attended school in Bigbee. He worked in the construction industry and specialized in plaster work. He was of the Baptist Faith and his children and family were the most important to him in his life. After retiring, he loved to be in the country and go fishing. He also liked to play pool. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he was very humorous. His spirit was bigger than life and he enjoyed redecorating his home. He loved country music and his favorite artists were Jimmy Rogers and Hank Williams Sr.
Survivors include his sister, Lois Seymore (Robert), Shannon; brothers, Glen Gaines, Tupelo, Larry Gaines (Mary), Odenville, AL, and Richard Gaines (Marilyn), Pulaski, TN; grandchildren, Misty Murphy, Fulton, Michael Lee White (Cindy), Tupelo; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Edwin Gaines and Gary Gaines; a daughter, Janet Gaines; three brothers, Milton, Billy, and Waymon Gaines; three sisters, Shirley Mauldin, Nadine Clardy and Doris Causey.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Mr. Justin Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Duane Parchman, Phillip Harmon, Terry Sellers, David Phillips and Cody Phillips.
Visitation will be from 12 – 1:50 PM, Tuesday, at the funeral home.
