Amory –James S. “Jimmy” Dodd, 71, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on November 28, 1945, in Amory, he was a son of the late Marvin Jay and Dorothy Riner Dodd.
Jimmy was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1963. On August 1, 1969, he married the love-of-his-life, Janice Virginia Hill. Together, they were blessed with three children. A dedicated worker, Jimmy was a dispatcher for Amory Police Department for 15 years and with Monroe County 911 for 12 years, retiring in 2013. He was a faithful member of Amory Church of Christ and he loved the Lord with all his heart.
One who lived life to the fullest, Jimmy believed in giving back, caring for people and lending a helping hand. Witty and funny, he was a very loving husband and dad, whose life revolved around his family and children. Passionate about his grandchildren, Jimmy loved coaching his children and grandchildren in the sports they played and attending all of their games. Loving all sports, he especially loved the Chicago Cubs and was elated when they won the World Series in November. Having a sweet tooth, Jimmy loved chocolate cake and also peanut butter and bananas, always with a cup of coffee. He enjoyed listening to Country and Gospel music. Jimmy touched so many lives with his love and faith and he will be missed greatly by all that knew him.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Dodd (Bruce Andress), Amory; sons, Mike Dodd and Jeff Dodd (Theresa) of Tupelo; grandchildren, Kristen and Madelyn Dodd; Danielle Hurst; Kylie Renfro; Whitney Howell; Cody Renfro; Ashley Harlow; Chandler Beth Winter; Allie Grace Winter; brother, Michael Dodd (Patti), Cookeville,TN; several nieces and nephews; numerous adopted grandchildren, who called him “Pop-paw.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Janice V. Dodd.
His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM, Tuesday, January 31 at Amory Church of Christ with Mr. Philip Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Randy Renfro, Dewayne Laney, Tommy Simmons, Stan Odom, Phil Sullivan, Rick Lockridge, Roy Lee Lindsey and Scott Carter.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Monday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory. He will lie-in-state at the church from 10 – 10:50 AM, Tuesday.
