Amory – James Albert Bethany, 66, died Monday, May 14, 2012 at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo after a brief illness. Born on July 16, 1945 in Chickasaw County, he was the son of the late Aubrey Jack and Ruth Inez Kelly Bethany.
Mr. Bethany was a graduate of Aberdeen High School, Class of 1964. He attended Itawamba Community College and was a graduate of Mississippi State University, Class of 1969 with a degree in Business Administration. He worked in Human Resources in various companies in Mississippi, Georgia, and Arkansas. He married Peggy Egger on July 2, 1978. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren affectionately knew him as “Pop”. He was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory, where he was a learned Adult Sunday School Teacher and a member of Thursday morning Bible Study.
Services will be held 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at E. E Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.
Visitation will continue Wednesday until time for the service to begin.
Pallbearers will be Tony Holloway, Chris Holloway, Harold Holloway, Hal Bourland, Jr, Mike Riley, Bob Bethany, and Brandon Bethany. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Ashton.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Peggy Egger Bethany of Amory; Sons, Dr James L Nichols, Jr (Jamie) of Greenville MS and James W Bethany (Tricia) of Meridian; daughter, Misty L Broome (Marc) of Bassfield MS; brothers, Kelly Bethany (Polly) of Hamilton and Frank ‘Buddy’ Bethany (Sharon) of Bartlett TN; sisters, Janis Holloway (Harold) of Hamilton and Debbie Shaw of West Point; sisters-in-law, Betty Bethany of Alexandria LA and Paula Bethany of Corinth; brother and sister-in-law, Hal and Betty Bourland of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Madeline Nichols, Abigail Nichols, Malia Nichols, Aubrey Bethany, Anna Broome; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jack and R.C. Bethany.
