James T. Adams

Nettleton – James Thomas Adams, Jr., 78, died on Monday, June 18, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on June 7, 1934, in Smithville, he was a son of the late Minnie Mae Camp and James Thomas Adams, Sr.

Mr. Adams attended Becker School. On November 7, 1953, he married Lois Johnson. Retiring in 1996, Mr. Adams was a hardworking, self-employed carpenter and also worked for William Sloan, Troy Hodges, and Jerry Hood. Strong in his faith, he was a member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church. A wonderful man who was a great provider, Mr. Adams loved his family, especially his wife of 58 ½ years. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, watching his son and grandsons play ball, and listening to Gospel and Bluegrass music. Mr. Adams was a long-time member of the Amateur Softball Association, serving as an umpire and coach, and was a former member of the Blue Blazers in Amory.

He is survived by his wife, Lois J. Adams, Nettleton; daughters, Melissa Rogers (Steve), Nettleton, and Phyllis Evans (Allen), Hamilton; son, James Carl Adams, Nettleton; sister, Mae Dean Chism (Gene) Amarillo, TX; brothers, Larry Adams (Caroline), Becker and George Adams (Linda), Nettleton; grandchildren, Jeremy Hester, Zack Evans, Joshua Rogers, and Cody Rogers; great-grandchildren, Kyrstin Hester, Noah Hester, Makenzi Rogers, and Anna Brooke Rogers; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Myatt; brother, Danny Adams; and a great-granddaughter, Kyrstin Hester.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Jones Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Corey Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Zack Evans officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Hester, Zack Evans, Josh Rogers, Cody Rogers, Mike Hendrix, and Bobby Hendrix.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday at Jones Chapel Baptist Church.

Memorials may be given to Jones Chapel Baptist Church, 30151 Metts Rd., Nettleton, MS 38858.
