J. B. Monaghan, 72, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Care Center of Aberdeen. Born on November 4, 1944, in Amory, he was a son of Louise Duncan Monaghan and the late Vernon J. B. “Mutt” Monaghan, Sr.
J. B. graduated from Amory High School, Class of 1962, and received his Associate’s Degree in Math from IJC. He served in the US Navy, stationed in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. J. B. was a welder for Frisco/Burlington Northern Railroad. A man of strong faith, he was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. He was a talented handyman, a jack-of-all-trades and an auto repairman. After retiring, J. B. followed his passion for cooking and opened a restaurant. He loved serving the public and creating dishes all could enjoy.
To his family, he was the anchor and a fixed point. A great source of advice, J. B. was a very generous and giving man who loved his children and grandchildren. Respectful and honest, he was passionate about disabled Veterans. His favorite music to listen to was Country and Western and Classical. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, collecting knives and going to the movies. J. B. was very talented as an artist, he enjoyed painting and drawing in his free time. His memories will live on in the hearts and minds of all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his mother, Louise Monaghan, Amory; daughters, Lisa Monaghan, Pontotoc; Angela Fears, Savannah, GA; sons, Randy Monaghan (Stephanie), Amory; Chadwick Monaghan, Sheffield, AL; and Daniel Monaghan, Guntown; sister, Barbara Harlow, Amory; brother, George Monaghan (Barbara), Amory; grandchildren, Tabatha, Brittany, Jordan, Morgan, Ragan, Keira, Teagan, Christopher, Katie, Ethan and Madison; great-grandchildren, Lilly, Jackson, Addison and Ezra; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Jimmy Dykes, G. W. Walls and Bubby White.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Conner Monaghan; and many special friends.
His Funeral Service will be at 1 PM, Friday, March 10 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Gordon, Rev. Don McCain and Bro. Truman Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chadwick Monaghan, Daniel Monaghan, Aubrey Preston, Craig Monaghan and other friends.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
