Becker – J. C. Guyton, 72, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015, at Gilmore Memorial RMC, Amory. Born on March 1, 1942, at his home in Monroe County, he was a son of the late James Carl and Eva Strawbridge Guyton.
He attended Bigbee, Becker and Amory schools. On December 21, 1961, he married Betty Carol Rock. J. C. worked as a presser at Amory Garment and was a farmer. A man of strong faith, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Hardworking and caring, he and his wife were foster parents for many years. He was passionate about his family, especially his grandchildren. J. C. enjoyed woodworking, fishing, spending time with friends, old hymns and loved animals.
Survivors include his daughters, Elizabeth Guyton, Chasity Guyton, Crystal Adair (Terry), Myra Carter (Jerome), and P. J. Owings (Eddie), of Becker; sons, Brandon Guyton (Chasity) and Devin Guyton of Becker; sister, Edith Virginia Gunter, Sulligent; brothers, Truman Hansen Guyton (Cordelia), Hodges, AL, and Gredel Bryce Guyton, Smithville; grandchildren, Katherine Guyton; Madison, Connor and Hunter Adair; Jonathan Carter; Miranda Cason; Dan Owings; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Bradley, Eva Grace, Emma Claire and Jamie Lee; and numerous nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Carol Guyton; son, Joseph Christopher Guyton; grandson, Jacob Carter; and brothers, James, Arvin Oather, Charles Mitchell and Claxton Donald Guyton.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, January 15 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Mac Phillips, Bro. Jay Knight and Bro. Ronnie Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Roger Dean, Jerry Camp, Chris Brown, Ron Smith, Mike Steele, Joey Taylor and Adrian Moffett. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy and Jimmy Kirkpatrick; Doug Stevens, Larry Armstrong, Howard Moon, Douglas Tubb, Kenneth Reich and Butch Barrett.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to a charity of choice.
