Isaac Mason Coursey

Isaac Mason Coursey, 95, passed away at his residence on November 21, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born in Gilvo, Mississippi to Millie Ann (Lester) and George Mason Coursey on October 11, 1921.
As a young man Isaac worked various jobs in and around the Amory area. He met the love of his life, Maxine Lockhart and shortly thereafter joined the Army for what he thought would be a two year enlistment. When the United States joined the war in 1941, his service was extended until “Duration plus six months”.
He married Maxine on September 5, 1942 while on leave and was then deployed overseas to North Africa. He would eventually serve in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany before victory was won and he came home.
Mr. Coursey graduated from auto Mechanics College in Memphis while working at Kennedy Veterans Administration Hospital. He continued to work with the VA and transferred to Downey VA Hospital in North Chicago IL. He was employed for the VA for 30 years until his retirement at the age of 55. Mr. Coursey and his loving wife lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin for over 50 years and then returned to Amory in 2001.
He was a member of the National Association of Federal Employees (NARFE), a Lifetime member of the American Legion and also a Lifetime member of the VFW.
He leaves his wife of 74 years, Maxine (Lockhart) Coursey; his son, Dwight Coursey and wife Hind; daughter Linda and husband George Herlihy. He also leaves seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. .
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother George Coursey and grandson Duane Coursey.
A celebration of life service will be at 1:00 Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory. Rev. Brian Gordon and Rev. Don McCain will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mr. Coursey’s family and friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 12:50 PM at the funeral home.
