Irene Cox

Amory – Irene Coker Cox, 97, died on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at North MS Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on June 21, 1915, in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Howard and Nola Frances Bowling Coker.

A wonderful, amazing, and spunky, old-school Southern lady, she was an adopted mother and grandmother to many. An excellent cook, Mrs. Cox enjoyed Bingo, competing in her Bowling League until the age of 94, the Braves, the Bulldogs, and watching the Price Is Right.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Elliott (John B. Denley, III), Saltillo; grandchildren, Mike Reese, Gail Earrey (Bill), Mark Wesley Reese (Darlene), Dana Taylor, and Chris Elliott (Gayle); 11 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, her wonderful neighbors and her adopted families at bingo and bowling.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Laymon Cox; daughter, Martha Jean Reese; son-in-law, Billy R. Reese; sister, Orene Addington; and brothers, Howard and Durwood Coker.
