Inez Noe Sullivan

Amory—Dora Inez Noe Sullivan passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Born on November 2, 1915, in Detroit, Alabama, she was the daughter of John Shafer and Johnnie Avis Young Noe.

Inez was the second daughter of twelve children. During her childhood, she spent much of her time helping her mom and picking cotton fields. Inez attended Smithville High School as a youth, where she loved to play basketball. On December 24, 1933, while lnez was in 11th grade, she and Elmo Sullivan walked to the end of Mt. Zion across from the drive-in and got married.

Inez worked at Amory Garment Plant until 1947. In 1963, they moved back to Amory from Memphis, and she worked as an inspector for the plant from 1964-1985. Inez was a faithful member of East Amory Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 40 years. She was very fond of church hymns and enjoyed listening to people sing. In 1971, Inez lost her husband. She remained active and self-sufficient, however, and was often described as spunky and independent. Inez was very hard-working, and even mowed her own yard and drove herself around town until she was 100 years old.

Inez loved her family and enjoyed taking care of her children and grandchildren. She was a great cook, and two specialties her family and others remember are Inez making haystacks at Halloween and coconut cakes on special occasions. Inez was also passionate about the Meals-On-Wheels program. In her free time, she loved yard work, solving puzzles, and watching sports or Jeopardy on TV. Inez leaves lasting memories for her family and will be dearly missed. She is now making her heavenly home and rejoicing in her reunion with Elmo.

She is survived by her daughter, Wynelle Brown, Amory; son, Steve Sullivan (Elizabeth), Becker; brother, Jack Noe (Louise), Starkville; grandchildren, Debbie Pounds (Johnny), Amory, Terrye Rice, Amory, David Brown (Tammy), Amory, Susan Gillentine (Brian), Becker; great-grandchildren, Jon Pounds, Rachel Pounds, Jacob Pounds (Courtney), Becky Pounds, Nathan Brown (Amber), Andy Rice (Blair), Kara Brown, Cody Brown, Kayla Harper (Marshall), Connor Brown, Aubrey Gillentine, Corbin Gillentine; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many special friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Inez was preceded in death by her son, Eddie Oliver Sullivan; sisters, Clorine Phillips, Eunice Chism, Verdie Plaxico, Beulah Gray Poore Neal, Bernice Bryan, Lavern Noe; brothers, Kenneth “Buck” Noe, Hurston Noe, Shafer Noe, and Robert Eston Noe.

Her funeral service will be at 11AM on Monday, February 5, 2018, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, Hatley. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
