Amory – Frank Hubert Elliott, 87, died on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on November 19, 1925, in Nettleton, he was a son of the late Zula Mable Kirkpatrick and Leyzunda Murrah Elliott, Jr.
A lifelong resident of Monroe County, Mr. Elliott graduated from Smithville High School, Class of 1944, and attended the University of Mississippi. He was a veteran of the US Navy. On April 24, 1948, he married Sammie Collums. Employed by Monroe County Electric Power Association for 59 years, Mr. Elliott retired as Manager in 2007 and was the longest serving employee of a rural electric co-op in the nation. A former Sunday school teacher, he was a member of First Baptist Church. His life was guided by his faith, God’s Plan for Salvation, and loving and providing for his family. Mr. Elliott enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, gardening, and Gospel and Country music.
He is survived by his wife, Sammie Collums Elliott, Amory; daughters, Donna Melton (Brent), Madison and Nan Moon (George “Skipper”), Amory; sister, Martha Evelyn Johnson, Amory; brother, Victor Elliott (Kay), Amory; grandchildren, Mary Dara Cassity, Lee Anna Melton, Aynslee Moon, and Molly Moon; great-grandchildren, Mary Melton Cassity and John Cassity, Jr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rubel Elliott.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 6 in Masonic Cemetery with Dr. Allen Simpson and Dr. Tom Cheatham officiating. Pallbearers will be Victor Elliott, Jr., Billy Kirkpatrick, Dan Rogers, Thomas Stafford, Frank Finney, Barry Rowland, and Ryan Payne. Honorary pallbearers will be Monroe County Electric Power Association Board of Directors and Staff.
Visitation will be from 9 – 11 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.
