Hoyte Jordan

Amory – Hoyte Junior Jordan, 82, began his new life Heaven on Sunday, April 30, 2023. He was born on April 9, 1941, in Fernbank, Alabama, to the late Alvie Lee Jordan and Quillie Perkins Snow.

He grew up in a large family with seven other siblings in Lowndes County and he attended school in Caledonia and New Hope. He went to work at an early age and worked hard his entire life, providing for the family he loved dearly. Hoyte was in the timber industry and he both cut and hauled it, providing building materials for the community for years. In addition to working with lumber, he also refinished pieces of furniture and made neat walking sticks to help people traverse the challenging paths in life. In his younger days, he also liked working on old cars.

Hoyte married his best friend Shirley Lantrip on June 23, 1961, and together they were blessed with a daughter and precious granddaughter. He loved his wife and daughter yet his granddaughter Katelin hung the moon. His family meant the world to him and he enjoyed just spending precious moment with them. Hoyte was a member of Smithville Baptist Church, loved God and enjoyed listening to Gospel music. A people person, Hoyte never met a stranger and he loved to tell folks that he loved them.

His family and friends will miss him dearly, yet they are at peace knowing that he is in the presence of the Lord. All the wonderful memories made through the years will be cherished forever.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, Amory; his daughter, Patricia Holloway (Tim), Aberdeen; granddaughter, Katelin Guin (Jon), Mantachie; sisters, Faye Jordan, Lake Charles, LA, and Opal Holmes, Sparks, Nevada; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ellie Jordan, Wayne Jordan and Donald Jordan; sisters, Inez Chandler and Johnie Deaton.
