Amory – Hilda Hollis Chandler Hadaway, 90, died on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at her residence. Born on November 26, 1922, in Vernon, AL, she was a daughter of the late John McDaniel and Ada Louise Rogers Hollis.
Mrs. Hadaway attended Lamar County High School and received her LPN degree from ICC in 1970. Retiring from Gilmore Memorial Hospital in 1995, she worked as a neonatal nurse. Before becoming a nurse, Mrs. Hadaway worked at Glenn Manufacturing in Vernon and Amory. A devout Christian who was a gentle lady and who was firm in her beliefs, she was an active member of the Free Will Baptist Church. With her kind-hearted nature, she touched many lives. Mrs. Hadaway was a good mother and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, and Gospel music.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, February 14 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Wright and Bro. [Scott Wright / Van D. Hudson] officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughters, Kawatha Koonce, Columbus and Rebecca Chandler, Amory; son, Arnold Ray Chandler (Norma), Caledonia; sisters, Mary Sue Yerby (Raphael), Fayette, AL, and Jewel Reeves, Saltillo; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Clovis Chandler and Chester Alvis Hadaway; son, Allen Hollis Chandler; sister, Juanita Carden; and a grandson. Memorials may be given to a church of choice.
