Amory – Herbert E. Mize, 83, died on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at MS State Veterans Home, Oxford. Born on July 13, 1927, in Quincy, he was a son of the late Thomas Chester and Grace Sims Mize.
Mr. Mize was a graduate of Becker High School. He honorably served his country during WWII in the US Army. Mr. Mize retired as a foreman with MS Valley Gas Company. He was a member of Quincy Methodist-Baptist Church and was a Mason.
He is survived by his sons, Bert (Phyllis) Mize, Amory and Ray Harris, Oley, PA; sisters, Mae Harrison, Jackson, TN, and Eugenia Kendrick, Amory; grandchildren, Craig Gregory, Emily Mize Glenn, Amy Texter and Tina Haring; and great-grandchildren, Andrew and Anna Kate Glenn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Parchman Mize; sister, Bessie Grisham; brother, Bobby Mize; and daughter-in-law, Marlee Harris.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with his nephew, David Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in Durrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Bowen, Luke Harris, Allen Glenn, Dan Rogers, Donald Steed and John Bingham.
Visitation will be from 1 PM until the service hour at the funeral home on Sunday.
