Amory – Helen Lynette Wright Rutledge, 80, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus, MS. Helen is now home forever with her husband Roland, her parents, many friends, loved ones and most of all, Jesus and God. Born on March 21, 1936, in Vernon, AL, she was a daughter of the late Linnie Houston and Lillie Clementine Crossley Wright.
Helen was a graduate of Vernon, AL, High School. On October 8, 1955, she married the love of her life, Roland Sermon Rutledge. Together, they were blessed with two sons. Helen worked as a clerk for Amory Health Department. Having a love for education and children, Helen also worked and retired as teacher’s assistant at West Amory Elementary School. A Southern lady who loved The Lord, she was a lifelong Christian and member of First Baptist Church, Amory. Helen’s favorite Scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6. Her life was guided by Jesus Christ, her husband, Roland, and her sons and grandsons. Helen deeply loved her family and was very proud of them.
With her old Free Will Baptist family, they loved getting together to cook, eat and play games. An excellent cook, Helen enjoyed making pecan pies. She also enjoyed listening to Gospel music. A resident at Windsor Place, Columbus, Helen loved the staff. Her family extends a very special thank you to their staff. Although she will be missed dearly, family and friends are confident that Helen is singing praises, sharing in feasts and enjoying her brand new perfect body.
She is survived by her sons, Terry Lynn Rutledge (Cindy), Chattanooga, TN, and Timothy Jay Rutledge (Melissa), Madison; grandchildren, Jonathan Rutledge, Columbia, MO, Nicholas Rutledge, Chattanooga, Zachary Rutledge, Columbus, Laura Rutledge, Jackson, and Alexandria Rutledge, Chattanooga; sister, Sara Wright Morgan, Vernon, AL; brother, Henry Grady Wright, Amory; niece, Kay Morgan Turner; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Faye Stevens, Mary Jean Hollis, Cissy and Myrt Pierce, Grace Sanderson, Corinne Ball, Jo Cagle, Brenda Burks and many others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Roland.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, December 1, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Allen Simpson and Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Burial will follow in New Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Paul, Buddy and Bobby Crossley; William Turner; Jonathan, Nicholas and Zach Rutledge; Tim Johnson; Bobby and Will Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be members of First Baptist Church, Amory.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
