Helen Fay Hathcock

Amory – Helen Fay Humphries Hathcock, 85, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Oak Tree Manor. Born on November 25, 1930, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Walter Lee Humphries and Elva Freeda Wideman Humphries Nash.

Before her senior year of high school, Helen married S. B. “Jack” Hathcock on July 15, 1947. She was a graduate of Smithville High School Class of 1948. She played basketball and was voted “Most Beautiful” in her junior and senior years. Working in the garment industry for 35 years, Helen worked as a floor lady for Glenn Mfg. and as a supervisor for Red Kap Industries. Always placing God first in her life, she was a charter member and a very active member of New Hope Baptist Church, serving in the WMU, as a Sunday school teacher, Training Union director, on the Church Counsel, and on the bereavement food committee. She was passionate about going on church mission trips and loved her church family.

A true Southern lady, she was a kind, considerate and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Very conscientious about people’s feelings and thoughts, Helen always put others first and enjoyed helping them. She is remembered for being delicate yet tough when needing to be. Always on the go, Helen enjoyed going on church trips, vacations and eating out with Punk and Mabel Ford. She enjoyed working in her flowers and plants, vegetable gardening, sewing, and especially spoiling her grandchildren. Gospel was her favorite music.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane (Russell “Buck”) Montet, Morgan City, LA; son, Mike (Sharon) Hathcock, Amory; grandchildren, Scarlett (Kyle) Thompson, Amory; Mel (Bill) Thurlow, Starkville; Nicole Tharp, Morgan City, LA; Kim (Ron) Aucoin; Harley Montet, Morgan City, LA; great-grandchildren, Emma Rose and Clay Thompson; Taylor and Ashlyn Tharp; Lauryn, Lucas, and Londyn Aucoin; Landon Richardel; Georgia Grace and Mason Thurlow; great-great-grandchild, Karen Crawford; several nieces and nephews.
