Smithville – Helen S. Cavender Foote, 78, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on September 26, 1936, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Clovis and Flossie McDonald Cavender.
Growing up, Helen worked in the area garment industry and worked as a sales person in Missouri. Eventually she followed her passion, cooking, and she worked as a cook at Johnnies’s Café and other locations for over 25 years. Many people were blessed by her God given talent of cooking. On June 9, 1998, she married James Foote. Helen was a member of Splunge Missionary Baptist Church. Having a big heart, she loved and was passionate about her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was proud of getting her GED later in life. Helen enjoyed cooking, fishing, and listening to Gospel music.
Survivors include her husband and best friend, James Foote, Smithville; daughters, Janice Hughey (Mike), Smithville, Patsy Carter (Frank), Festus, MO, Myra Smith (Billy), Nettleton, and Missy Foote and Sharon Doss of Newton; sons, David Jones (Donna), Smithville, Shane Doss, Newton, and Wayne Doss, Brandon; sisters, Rita Lovelady (Danny), Sulligent, and Barbara Barroga, Stockton, CA; brothers, Dewey Cavender (Ruth), Stockton, CA, Alton Cavender (Connie), Detroit, AL, and Joe Cavender (Sandra), Oak Hill Community; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Bea Ray and Johnnie Wilson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Jones; sister, Caroline Cavender; and brother, James Cavender.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Smithville Chapel, with Bro. Robert E. Fowlkes officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chad Jones; Michael, Bruce, and Cole Hughey; Bud Cox, and Marty Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers will be Randle Edwards, Lowell Dulaney, Taylor Hughey, and Brian Carpenter.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Monday and from 1 PM until the service hour, Tuesday, at our Smithville Chapel.
